This is a big crowd pleaser of a Guatemalan coffee. It's super sweet and clean, but still packs the bright acidity and complexity to make it a true standout.
We cupped hundreds of coffees while visiting Luis Pedro Zeyala's mill in Antigua, Guatemala this year. The Candelaria day lots that make up this coffee were our favorite from the farm's harvest. We originally launched a very well received version of Candelaria from the same lots as this one, but with the peaberries milled out for consistency -- even though the peaberries cupped a full point higher on their own. We quickly ran through our inventory of both Candelaria Espresso and Single Origin filter, and I was realizing that I should have bought more of it while visiting in the Spring.
However, a few weeks ago I got a text from the green buyer at Verve Coffee (who originally had contracted the high-end Candelaria Peaberry). She asked if we would be interested in taking it off their hands because the volume of the peaberry version just ended up being too small to launch at their level of production... but it happened to be a perfect volume fit for us to launch as a single origin filter offering. I definitely didn't have to think about it twice, so I confirmed we'd take it right then, and now it just completed its long journey with the arrival to our roastery here in SLO.
We are so excited to have Candelaria back, especially now in its very top form as peaberry. We are excited for all of you to try it, and hope you'll really enjoy!
